mr. & mrs. g

As you may or may not know, the universe was created by a
couple.  It took a lot more than a week, and they argued
about a lot of things, but finally came up with a plan they
could both live with.

The most controversial element of their grand design was
free will.  They were finally able to agree to it after somebody
realized it meant he could retire.

That was a long time ago.  When the play begins, Mrs. G is
worried.  She thinks we're making a mess of things.  Mr. G,
having decided to let us control our own lives, would rather
not know.

To settle an argument about whether monogamy is natural
for human beings, Mr. and Mrs. G decide to look in together.
They (and we) observe a brother and sister, good friends
who both have happy, long term relationships.  Something
comes up for each of them that threatens their monogamy,
and as things get complicated for the humans, Mr. & Mrs. G's
relationship hits the skids as well.
