Besuch bei Mr. Green opened in
Germany before
Visiting Mr.
Green
opened in New York.  From
a scouting report at a very early
reading, German agent
Per Lauke
arranged for the rights to the
play, and it has been playing
almost continuously somewhere in
Germany for the past 10 years,
often in more than one city at a
time.

There have been 24 separate
productions, and the play often
returns for a second or third
season with the same theatre
company.

Besuch bei Mr. Green had its
first
national tour in the late 90's,
and won the
Inthega Prize for
best touring production.  The
fourth tour visited 42 cities across
Germany in 2007.  A fifth tour
took place in early 2008.

The version of
Visiting Mr. Green
that is used in Germany is
different from that being used by
the rest of the world.  The
translation, by
Inge
Greiffenhagen
and Bettina von
Leoprechting
was made from the
draft that was performed at that
early reading by
Eli Wallach and
Tony Goldwyn, and has never
been updated to include the
changes
Jeff Baron made to the
play before it opened in New York.
